Biodiversity for insurers

A Wednesday Wisdom from Quietroom

Event details

9th October 2025 11:00am

Zoom

Nature-related risks and opportunities have shot up the agenda for insurers, investors and pension schemes – and not a moment too soon. The sustainable finance team at international conservation charity ZSL, otherwise known as London Zoo, have been leading the way in demystifying this space.

Join us to hear all about what biodiversity-related risk means for the insurance industry. We’ll be speaking to ZSL’s Fergus Campbell, Sustainable Business and Finance Advisor. Fergus and his team have put together training for insurers on how to identify and integrate biodiversity risk. So he’s going to share with us:

  • why and how the biodiversity crisis is relevant to the insurance industry
  • how the industry can speed up its work on biodiversity and start integrating nature-related considerations into their decision-making
  • what best practice from the insurance sector on biodiversity looks like

You’ve probably gathered that this Wednesday Wisdom will be tailored for an insurer audience. It will be especially useful for underwriters, particularly those dealing with physical assets such as property, and environmental teams within insurers. But everyone is welcome – and we guarantee you’ll learn something useful no matter what area you work in.

As always, there will be plenty of time for your questions, comments and thoughts.

Wednesday Wisdom is a weekly learning hour at Quietroom. An invited expert, or one of our own team, introduces an interesting topic that connects to pensions, investment or insurance, and we chat about it. Once a month we open up the event to friends of Quietroom too – so do join us if you’re free. If you can’t make it, sign up anyway and we’ll send you a link to the video recording afterwards.
